Prof. Dr.-Ing. Guido Dartmann
‘Excellent technology is created where curiosity, responsibility and shared learning come together.’
For me, sustainability is not a marginal condition, but the compass by which every technological decision must be orientated. It goes beyond pure ecology and redefines resilience, innovative strength and lasting business success. In my work, I see sustainability as an integral part of transformation: data and AI are enablers, corporate culture and mindset are the foundation, and sustainability is the guiding principle that enables value creation instead of value destruction.
This is precisely the connection that ISTE creates. We build bridges between science, business and education in order to quickly put data-driven, energy-efficient innovations into practice. Education is the key here – only those who understand how to use AI, IoT and the cloud responsibly can make informed decisions for a sustainable future.

Our mission: to make sustainable transformation measurable and tangible. We help companies to see sustainability not as a regulatory burden, but as an opportunity – be it through the integration of ecological key figures into AI models, the implementation of CSRD reporting obligations or the development of circular business models. The result is technology that combines economic strength with ecological added value.
I am personally committed to establishing sustainable business practices as a new standard – not as a buzzword, but as a genuine competitive advantage. Those who consistently understand sustainability as part of their strategy will not only be more successful economically, but will also make a measurable contribution to a future worth living.
Let’s #Together #ChangeThePresent, #ShapeTheFuture, #TakeResponsibility.
Background
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Guido Dartmann designs intelligent systems at the interface of artificial intelligence, networked infrastructures and sustainable technology design. As Professor of Computer Science at the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld at Trier University of Applied Sciences and spokesperson for the Birkenfeld Institute of Technology (BIT), he has been researching and teaching since 2016 how distributed systems, machine learning methods and IoT architectures can work together to create measurable ecological and economic added value. His focus is on robust, energy-efficient algorithms and platforms that consistently combine data-driven innovation with sustainability.
After completing his studies and doctorate at RWTH Aachen University, Guido Dartmann led applied research projects in communication technology and sensor networks before accepting the call to Birkenfeld. As co-founder of several companies – including Clinomic GmbH, Ignite AI GmbH and ISTE Group GmbH – he brings together research, consulting and practice-oriented training courses and supports organisations in quickly transferring AI-based solutions from idea to application.
He sees transformation as a data- and human-centred design process. In his research on ‘Green AI’, he examines the energy and resource consumption of ML algorithms in the edge and cloud environment and integrates key figures such as carbon footprint or electricity consumption directly into model and system optimisations. In this way, it helps companies and public institutions to implement AI strategies that are not only regulatory, but also sustainable and resilient.
Guido Dartmann is also committed to promoting young talent: As a lecturer, mentor and project manager, he creates practical learning spaces – from the IoT workshop on campus to international research projects – in which students and junior staff can develop their potential, make an impact and take responsibility for sustainable digitalisation.
